(EDPA) Policy Statement

The Purpose of The Elevating Devices Professional Association is to provide a unifying body to represent the interests of Workers, Contractors, Suppliers and Members within the Elevating Device Community, for the purpose of granting membership and registration to persons who meet the standards of the association.

To maintain discipline among its members.

To assist members in advancing their status, recognition, and welfare and in increasing their knowledge, skill and proficiency.

The Mission of the Elevating Devices Professional Association is to give its members a voice in areas where changes can have an impact on the elevating device business.

To distribute information, collect opinions, seek consensus, and present a common front supporting the will of the membership.

To establish and maintain consistent registration requirements for all classes of its members.

To establish, promote and enforce high ethical and professional standards of conduct for members.

To accept donations, gifts, legacies, and bequests for use in promoting its objectives and carrying on its work.

To carry on benevolent work in connection with the families of dead, retired or incapacitated members who are in need.

To co-operate with other organizations with objects that are in whole or are in part, the same or similar to its objects.

The Elevating Devices Professional Association will promote educational and placement initiatives on behalf of its members, providing a vehicle for both public access to the elevating devices trade and a source of information and technical growth of its members.

The EDPA will seek to inform a wide audience of the merits of a strong professional multi-faceted business sector.

The EDPA will develop a code of conduct and a code of ethics to which its members will subscribe.

EDPA initiatives will provide our members’ clients with a secure path to share a voice in the continual improvement of member services.

EDPA will foster professionalism within its members by offering targeted educational opportunities, courses designed to meet the specific requirements of the individual member companies and courses designed to encourage technicians excel in business practices and relationships.

The EDPA will focus on changes and the impact on business when Codes, Regulations, Standards and Laws are proposed, revised, or adapted. The EDPA will assist businesses in understanding the requirements of working in various areas of the industry.

The EDPA will bring together members sharing common concerns and issues, the EDPA will provide a focus and means to express this opinion with a strong unified voice.

The Goal of the EDPA is to collaborate with its members to focus on issues which are of critical importance.

To promote safe work practices and procedures for the industry.

To provide seminars in areas which will have a direct impact on improving professionalism within the industry.

To be a leader in unifying a code of ethics and conduct with the EDPA membership. Providing members with professional standing and skills to enhance their abilities for public interactions.

To provide business management seminars to assist member business owners towards operational excellence.

To perform detailed forensic audits for the analysis and planning of asset management and budget forecasts.

  The affairs of the association shall be managed by its council.

The council of the association is composed of such number of persons as is specified in its bylaws.

The association shall register a person as a member if the person applies in accordance with the requirements established by the association and meets the requirements established by the association for membership.

The association shall register as a member in one or more of the following classes of members, if member meets the requirements established by the Association for registration in the applicable class:

    1. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Member
    2. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Professor
    3. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Technician
    4. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Operator
    5. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Inspector
    6. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Supplier
    7. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Technologist I, II, III, IV

      The Association shall keep a register listing the names of its members in good standing, their class of membership and such other information as the council considers appropriate.

      The Association shall make the register available for inspection by the public at its head office during normal office hours.

        USE OF DESIGNATIONS:

         A member of the Association who is registered as a certified technician may use the designation “Certified Elevating Device Professional “, which may be abbreviated as “CEDP.”, “CEDP-M”, “CEDP-P”, “CEDP-T”, “CEDP-O”, “CEDP-I”,” CEDP-S”, “CEDP-T”

         

        A person shall not do any of the following things unless the person is a registered by the Association as a certified elevating device professional:

        1. Use the designation “Certified Elevating Device Professional” alone or in combination with any other word, name, title, initial or description.
        2. Imply or hold out that he or she is certified elevating device professional

        DESIGNATIONS:

        1. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Member            (EDPA)

        Membership in the association which provides for recognition of meeting all of the requirements for membership and subscribing to the code of ethics and conduct.

        2. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Professor          (EDPA-P)

        Meeting the requirements of the association and subscribing to the code of ethics and conduct for the purposes of representing the association in matters pertaining to educational and training services.

        3. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Technician        (EDPA-T)

        Meeting the requirements for membership with recognition as certified in an accredited trade or a trade meeting the requirements as recognized by the association.

        4. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Operator (Freight, Hoist, Etc.), (EDPA-O)

        Meeting the requirements for membership with recognition in meeting the requirements for obtaining an EDPA operators’ designation for one of the devices requiring trained personnel.

        5. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Inspector          (EDPA-I)

        Meeting the requirements for membership with recognition as an inspector or consultant by an accredited agency recognized by the association.

        6. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Supplier             (EDPA-S)

        Meeting the requirements for membership with non-voting privileges.

        7. Certified Elevating Device Professional – Technologist I, II, III, IV                (EDPA-I) (EDPA-II) (EDPA-III) (EDPA -IV)

        Meeting the requirements for membership and recognized as engaged in obtaining the education, trade hours and experience to challenge the accreditation exam in the jurisdiction providing for the administration of such exams.
